About Department
The Department of Botany at C.P.A. College, established in 1995, has a long-standing legacy of excellence in teaching and research. Initially offering Botany as part of Pre-University Classes (PUC) in 1976, the department expanded its role in 1977 to include undergraduate courses. Botany is taught as an allied subject to first- and second-year undergraduate chemistry students.
Under the leadership of Dr. C. Gopi, the department thrives in both academics and community service. It boasts well-ventilated laboratories equipped with modern instruments and a botanical garden featuring over 500 trees of 45 species, as well as an Ethno Medicinal Garden with 50 medicinal plant species. These efforts earned the college the "One District One Green Champion 2020-21" award from MGNCRE.
The department has successfully completed multiple government-funded research projects and training programs. Through the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA), it supports five nearby hill villages with awareness campaigns and medicinal herbs. The Botanical Association actively promotes teamwork, creativity, and leadership among students through seminars, field studies, and excursions.
With its dedicated faculty, excellent facilities, and holistic approach, the Department of Botany continues to nurture scientific spirit and environmental consciousness in its students.
