The state-level technical workshop on “Intellectual Property Rights (IPR)” was held on February 22, 2023, organized by the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of CPA College in collaboration with the Tamil Nadu State Council for Science and Technology, Patent Information Centre, Government of Tamil Nadu, Chennai, and Technology Information Forecasting and Assessment Council, Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. The workshop aimed to create awareness about IPR and its significance in research and development.

The inaugural function started with the lighting of the lamp and prayer at 9:00 am, followed by a welcome address by Dr. S. Sivakumar., Ph.D.,  Principal i/c. The theme of the workshop was introduced by Dr. K. Krishnan., Ph.D.,          Coordinator, NAAC, Assistant Professor of Mathematics,  and the Presidential Address was delivered by Sri.S.V.Subramanian, President, C.P.A. College & Society. Sri.R.Purushothaman.,M.A., B.Ed., Secretary & Correspondent, felicitated the gathering. The Chief Guest Address was delivered by Dr.R.Srinivasan., M.Sc., Ph.D.,F.I.C.S., M.A.C.S.(USA)., Member Secretary, Tamil Nadu State Council for Science and Technology, Sardar Patel Road, DOTE Campus, Chennai, and a Special Address was delivered by Shri. S. Thangapandian, Deputy Controller of Patents & Designs, Patent Office, Chennai.

The technical sessions of the workshop started at 10:00 am, with the first session focusing on an introduction to Intellectual Property Rights, delivered by Shri.S.Thangapandian, Deputy Controller of Patents & Designs, Patent Office, Chennai. The second session, which started at 11:30 am, focused on Schemes and research funding opportunities, and it was delivered by Dr.R.Srinivasan.,M.Sc.,Ph.D.,F.I.C.S., M.A.C.S.(USA)., Member Secretary, Tamil Nadu State council for Science and Technology, Chennai. The third session, which started at 12:30 pm, focused on the Significance of Geographical Indication (GI) registration, delivered by Dr. A. Usha Raja Nanthini, Professor and Head, Department of Biotechnology, Mother Teresa Women’s University, Kodaikanal. The fourth and final session, which started at 02:30 pm, focused on Copyrights and plagiarism and the Role of the Government in IPR promotion and facilitation, delivered by Ms. S. Gomati Padma Thilaga, Scientist-B, Patent Information Centre, Tamil Nadu State council for Science and Technology, Chennai.

The valedictory function started at 03:30 pm with a welcome address by Dr.S.Sivakumar., Ph.D., Principal i/c, followed by the Presidential Address by Sri.S.V.Subramanian,  President, C.P.A. College & Society. Sri. R. Purushothaman., M.A., B.Ed., Secretary & Correspondent felicitated the gathering, and the Valedictory Address and Certificate Distributions were delivered by Dr.R.Srinivasan.,M.Sc.,Ph.D.,F.I.C.S., M.A.C.S.(USA)., Member Secretary, Tamil Nadu State Council for Science and Technology, Sardar Patel Road, DOTE Campus, Chennai. The participants gave their feedback, and a vote of thanks by Dr. R. Murugesan., Ph.D., Coordinator, IQAC, Associate Professor of Computer Science. The workshop concluded with the National Anthem. 101 college professors, research scholars and PG students participated in this training workshop from various colleges.

Overall, the workshop was a success, providing a platform to enhance knowledge and awareness about IPR among the participants.
